For most cancer patients radiation therapy is their last chance to beat cancer. Unfortunately a number of people will attempt killing themselves during or just after their radiation therapy. For some this is due to the pain they have to endure during the radiation therapy regimen…and for others it’s due to radiation therapy long term effects like sterility that is caused by the radiation treatment (mostly affects those who have cancer in parts of the body near their reproductive organs). But the biggest risk group for suicide attempts, are those who go through radiation therapy and fail to get cured, since they are the most hopeless group.
People who have a severe medical condition like cancer are a major risk group for suicide. In fact cancer patients are 2x more likely to commit suicide compared to the general population. However it is important to note that by all factors, this number is most likely underestimated due to the fact that a high number of cancer related suicides go unreported. Pay extra attention to those who have oral, pharyngeal and lung cancers, since these groups are the most at risk. Suicide in cancer patients is mostly due to the fact that those suffering from cancer are usually dealing with massive depression. Continue reading ‘Radiation Therapy Can Lead to Suicide Attempts’ »

Here are the top recommended anti-cancer foods:
Greens – Spinach, chard, collard, turnip and a whole family of green leafy vegetables are rich in antioxidants that protect your body’s cell structure from damage caused by ‘free radical’ cells that can cause cellular mutation and lead to cancer. One study gave spinach the top ranking of vegetables for its ability to protect against cancer. Try and eat spinach or any one from the family of green, leafy vegetables daily. They are very versatile. Hate cooked spinach? Kale and chard to bitter? Try adding just a few leaves to a salad, sauté lightly with olive oil and garlic, add to soups and stews…it really is easy to get a healthy helping without being “Popeye”
Garlic – Garlic is full of a compound called allicin. Chopping, slicing or dicing a fresh clove of garlic causes this compound to undergo an amazing chemical change. All of these chemicals function as antioxidants that prevent many types of cell mutations that can be the beginning of a cancerous cell. Study continues but points to evidence that in addition to cancer, garlic can aid in the prevention of cancers of the prostate, kidneys, ovaries, larynx, esophagus, prostate and colon. The best way to consume garlic, especially if you not a big fan of the strong flavor is to slowly bake or roast with it. Cooking appears to increase its potency and effect and long cooking reduces the strong flavor into a sweet, smoky flavor. There really is no set amount to consume…just eat as much as you can daily. And if the flavor is just not something you can learn to like, there are a number of pure garlic supplements that will allow you to consume garlic without feeling ‘vampire-proof’. American women are very much aware that they stand in the middle of a veritable epidemic of breast cancer. There are many reasons for this including the longest period between puberty and menopause ever seen in human history, low rates of childbearing, environment exposure to chemical estrogens and the simple risk of living too long. As of today the statistics show that 2 in 9 American women will develop breast cancer during some point of their life. In fact around 200,000 American women get this ailment yearly and as much as 50,000 may die due to this disease. Worldwide around 1.5 million women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year and 500,000 die every year.
There is another interesting fact about this disease. It is one of the cancers whose incidence changes dramatically when people migrate and change their dietary habits. Asian women – those from Japan and China are known to have a very low incidence of breast cancer. This is generally attributed to their much higher levels of consumption of soy, seafood and tea. When they move from their native countries to America they acquire the high American levels of cancer occurrence within one generation itself. It is believed that when Asian women move to America they consume high levels of animal fat and low levels of soy, seafood and tea. Radiation therapy is just one of the many treatments for Prostate Cancer Radiation . It utilizes high energy particles or rays to eliminate cancer cells
. Some of the times, radiation is used to be an initial shield against low-grade cancer which is still restricted in the prostate gland or which has spread to tissues nearby. The curing rates for men with these kinds of cancer are the same as those men undergoing radical prostatectomy. It was also used if cancer was not completely taken away or if it occurs again in the area where the surgery was performed. The types of radiation therapy are mainly classified into two which are external beam and internal radiation. They are both good methods for curing prostate cancer but the external beam radiation has a lot of long-term information on the effects of its treatment. External Beam Radiation Therapy This is where the radiation put an emphasis on the Prostate Cancer Radiation glade from a supply outside of the body. The process actually takes a longer time but it is just the same as to having an x-ray. Continue reading ‘Radiation Therapy of Prostate Cancer’ »
