Kefir is the name of a drink that is made by fermenting milk with kefir grains. By consuming kefir in daily diet can increase your immune system, something essential during cancer treatment. The present findings suggest that kefir extracts contain constituents that specifically inhibit the growth of human breast cancer cells, which might eventually be useful in the prevention or treatment of breast cancer. Kefir extracts suppress in vitro proliferation of estrogen-dependent human breast cancer cells but not normal mammary epithelial cell. Kefir also can reduce the risk of certain cancers, including colon cancer, preventing the growth of cancer cells. Continue reading ‘kefir as a treatment for Cancer Symptoms’ »

The thyroid gland is the only gland or organ that absorbs iodine. This makes it safe to use radioactive iodine (RAI) in treating thyroid diseases, such as Graves’ and thyroid cancer. RAI is an effective method to test the thyroid gland’s function and to see if there are any thyroid cells remaining in the body that may cause a recurrence of thyroid cancer.
To make the the procedure of the treatment effective there is a protocol that has to be followed to insure accuracy. By following the regime maximum uptake will occur in any remaining normal thyroid tissue or metastatic thyroid cancer. The protocol also includes what precautions you have to adhere to for public safety.
The day you are to have a RAI scan you will be given a radioactive iodine pill, allowing the remaining tissues to absorb the substance. If you are pregnant or breast feeding, tell your doctor. Continue reading ‘Radioactive Iodine Scan And Treatment Preparation’ »

There was a wealthy lady who came to us for help. For her diet, we advised that she took large amounts of natural fruit juices and vegetables. She reasoned cleaning the juice maker and utensils would involve too much work; thus she would prefer to take fruit juice concentrates instead – that would make life easier. Indeed, this is an unfortunate attitude. For a wealthy person, money comes rolling into the bank account rather easily without the person having to think or do much. This is line with money. But this is not going to be true with health. If you are not prepared to invest your time and effort into building your health, nobody else can do that for you. There is no short cut or easy way to good health. You owe it to yourself to eat rightly and build a healthy body.
We fully understand many people have an opinion similar to this wealthy lady’s. Progress and commercialization give birth to an instant noodles society. Everyone wants the easy. Everything is pre-packed, pre-washed, pre-cut, pre-cooked etc. What you need to do these days is just bite, chew and swallow. There is not much else to do nor a need to think too much! Is this the ultimate goal of a modern lifestyle?
In this world, there are numerous kinds of pills and supplements that are supposed to promote health. They are convenient to take. Just pop them into the mouth – but, do you think you feel great and healthy? Continue reading ‘Useful Information About Pills and Supplements For Cancer Patients’ »

The Body
Diet and Nutrition:
Let’s start by looking at the role your diet plays in immune health. Studies point to over 30% of all cancers now being directly related to diet. You have all heard about free radicals – they are bad! Under normal circumstances, they are naturally produced and destroyed by the body’s usual functions. However excessive amounts of free radicals may exist due to exposure to carcinogens, various toxins, radiation and improper digestion. Among other things, free radicals damage immune cells and interfere with internal communication. Antioxidants are the solution for blocking free radicals. There is a lot of research now regarding the great healing power of many foods that produce antioxidant effects in the body. A few stand out as super performers and should be included in your diet on a regular, if not daily basis. This is the list of the top performers from the book Foods that Fight Cancer by Dr. Richard Béliveau; brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, garlic, onine, spinach, watercress, flax seeds, tomato paste (and cooked tomatoes), turmeric, black pepper, fresh berries (blue, black and raspberries), dried cranberries, grapes, dark chocolate (70% cacao) citrus fruit juice, foods containing high levels of omega 3, green tea and red wine. The ones that have the biggest impact on the immune system are; turmeric (it is even more powerful when combined with black pepper), citrus fruits and omega 3 concentrated foods (fatty fish, fish oils, olive oil, hemp seeds, walnuts). For more detailed information of the impact of food on cancer cells I would highly recommend reading Dr. Béliveau’s book.
Two Key Vitamins:
Immune health is also influenced by certain vitamins. Vitamin C helps build the immune response as does vitamin D. Vitamin C is needed for the formation of certain hormones, for the production of lymphocytes (white blood cells), and to protect the body against bacteria and viruses. It is also a powerful anti-oxidant. It is water-soluble so your body is not able to store it in adequate quantities in the body. This is why it is important to ensure adequate daily intake. Six servings of fruits and vegetables per day is likely sufficient. On days when you feel you are not getting enough in your diet or if you are feeling run down you can take vitamin C supplements. Try not to consume refined sugar at the same time as your vitamin C supplement (for example the fizzy Vitamin C tablets). Vitamin C and sugar have a similar chemical structure so the two compete to enter the cells. When there is lots of sugar, less vitamin C will be absorbed and your system simply flushes it out. Cancer brings many challenges into the lives of your patients…
Treatment options…
Disruption of normal activities…
Fear, anxiety and depression…
When treating your cancer and post chemotherapy peripheral neuropathy patients, it’s easy to become focused on just the disease itself and the symptoms. But don’t overlook their emotional and psychological issues. These can be as debilitating as the disease itself and seriously affect treatment outcomes if not addressed.
Depression caused by chronic pain and frustration can derail an otherwise successful course of treatment. Continue reading ‘Doing Everything You Can for Your Cancer Patients’ »

Your family doctor suspects that you may have thyroid cancer because there is a lump on your neck or a swollen lymph node. The practitioner then sets up an appointment for you with and endocrinologist, a specialist in the endocrine system that the thyroid gland is a part. If your doctor has positive cancer results, he would then send you to an oncologist, a doctor that specializes in the treatment of cancer and knows the best treatments for the various types of cancer. Therefore you have to be prepared.
The following are some tips that will help you be ready for their questions:
1. Take the time to write down all the changes you have experienced whether they be physical of mental. Ask family members to help you because sometimes things change slowly and you may not notice or remember. Every detail is important in helping making a proper diagnosis.
2. Find out from your family doctor or general practitioner if there will be any special diagnostic test being done on your first visit. You may have to restrict some medications you are taking or follow some dietary restrictions. Continue reading ‘Diagnosed With Thyroid Cancer – 5 Tips To Prepare For The Oncologist Visit’ »

There’s a general agreement between practitioners in both the conventional and alternative cancer treatment worlds that detoxification of heavy metals and toxins is a good thing. We get them from dietary sources, such as some processed foods or from fertilizers and sprays used on some food crops, but that is controllable somewhat in that we make our choices about what we eat. We also get them atmospherically from pollution and as a by-product of some industrial processes and depending where we live, this can be a little or a lot of uncontrollable exposure. A good cancer detoxification program should be part of your alternative cancer treatment or prevention plan.
A good cancer detoxification program is basically intended to rid your body of a bunch of the bad stuff that can lead to cancer and other diseases. Not surprisingly there are all sorts of detox programs out there to treat everything from obesity to cancer. It’s reassuring to know that practicing a cancer detox program for one ailment will almost always have a positive impact on any others you might have or want to prevent. A good cancer detox program is also good for disease prevention. One approach that I find kind of interesting is that involving something called a zeolite.
