“Summer is the time when one sheds one’s tensions with one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all’s right with the world.”

Now that is a quote from Ada Louise Huxtable and it sure is true. For many people, summer is the time to go back to their childhood, to relieve themselves of the stress that they have gone through for the past seasons, and to just bask in what nature has to offer. This is the time when all cares are usually set aside and it is the season to enjoy. After all, this is the best part of the year when you can do pretty much everything and it is the time when you can spend a lot of time with loved ones and family. That is the beauty of summer.

This is the time that people usually get out of their houses and just take in the rays of the sun. But if you just do not know, having too much sun on your skin can not be that good. See, it can lead to skin cancer and this is why you should know just what to do to protect your skin against such a condition.

Experts suggest that if you really want to take advantage of the sun this summer, you should know what to avoid. For example, you can try to stay out of the hot rays during the hot hours of each day. The hot hours start at ten in the morning to around four in the afternoon. The rest of the day, you can enjoy the sun. Now if you cannot help but be out there, then make sure that you put on sunscreen at least 30 minutes before you venture outside. Make sure to put on additional sunscreen after around two to three hours. If you are doing activities that make you sweat or maybe you are swimming, then reapply after every hour.

The stronger the SPF that you find on your sunblock, the better that it would be for your skin. Make sure that you cover every inch of your body that will be exposed to the sun. You do not want to waste all that facial lotion and the facial creams you put on your face to keep it youthful just because you wanted to take advantage of the outdoors this summer.

Skin is the final layer and largest organ of our human system. Skin is made up of multiple layers of mesoderm tissues which protect our muscles, ligaments, bones and other internal organs lying underneath. Human skin is a thin layer which acts as a protecting agent from infections and pathogens, excessive water loss, and insulation. It regulates and maintains the human body temperature without any fluctuations.

Skin helps in sensation, synthesis, storage of vitamin D and vitamin B which helps in cell growth and reproduction, secretion of sweat. For breathing it absorbs small amount of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen. There are various skin types like oily, dry, normal, combination skin.

Skin is primarily composed of three layers. Namely epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. Epidermis is the outer layer which consists of basal and squamous cells. Melanocyte is a cell in the basal layer of epidermis. This produces melanin under the control of the melanocyte-stimulating hormone. It gives pigmentation to the skin which causes skin tanning. It also protects the deeper layer of the skin from exposure to UV light rays. The dermis which lies below the epidermis consists of blood vessels, connective tissues, hair follicles and the sweat glands.

The subcutaneous layer which is the deepest layer of the skin contains fat cells. Uncontrollable growth of abnormal cells in any layer of the skin ultimately leads to skin cancer. There are 3 common forms of skin cancer and these 3 are classified according to the types of cells affected. The most common form of skin cancer is called as basal cell carcinoma.

This is not a serious one but it requires treatment. This is quite common in the areas which are exposed to sunlight. However this doesn’t spread to other cells. Second form is Squamous cell carcinoma which develops in the middle layer of the epidermis. This is quite dangerous and it may lead to death if it is not treated properly. Third one is malignant melanoma which spreads quickly to other cells and causes quick damage. This type of skin cancer is dangerous if not detected and treated early. People with fair skin are at an increased risk for developing this form of cancer.

To prevent skin cancer better avoid exposing your skin to the sunlight between 10.00am to 4.00pm when the rays are at high intensity. In unavoidable conditions apply sunscreen lotions, Comfortable dressings to cover your hands, neck, face and head.

Surgery is the common treatment to overcome skin cancer diseases. However treatment depends on the patient’s age factor, overall health and medical history. Cancer stages also play a vital role in treatment. It takes about 28 to 35 days for the process of producing a new healthy skin.

According to the Mayo Clinic, all three types of skin cancer are on the rise. These include squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and the most serious form – melanoma. The good news is that almost all forms are preventable by avoiding sun exposure or other forms for ultraviolet (UV) radiation. It is also true that early detection can result in successful treatment of even the most aggressive types of skin cancers.

So what exactly causes skin cancer?

Cancerous cells are most likely to form on parts of your body that have the most exposure to sun. The most vulnerable areas include your face, lips, scalp, chest, neck, arms, hands and women’ s legs. You might be surprised to learn that cell malignant cells can also develop in areas of your body that are rarely (or never) exposed directly to sunlight. These areas include between your toes, under your toenails or fingernails, the palms of your hands, and the genital area.

The risk of skin cancer is not limited simply to people with light complexions. But when dark skinned people do develop melanoma, they are more likely to experience it in parts of the body not usually considered to be sun-exposed.

There is also no standard time table for cancerous lesions to develop. Depending on the type of cancer, a skin lesion can develop slowly over many years or appear very suddenly.

Warning signs of skin cancer are usually visual. For basal cell carcinoma, you may notice a waxy bump on your face, neck or ears, or a flat brown scar-like lesion on your back or chest. Squamous cell carcinoma usually appears as a firm red nodule, or a flat scaly lesion, on the face, neck, ear, hands or arms.

Melanoma, which is the most deadly form of skin cancer, can develop anywhere on the body – although it is found most frequently on the trunk, head or neck of men and the arms or legs of women. Melanoma can appear as a large brown spot with darker speckles, or a mole that suddenly changes color or size or bleeds. Melanoma can also appears as a small lesion with an irregular border and blue, red, black or white spots. Shiny, firm dome-shaped bumps can also be a warning sign of melanoma, as well as dark lesions on the soles of the feet, palms of the hands, or on the mucous linings of the nose, mouth, anus or vagina.

While not all changes in your skin are malignant, it is best to have your doctor examine any changes that you notice. With early detection, most skin cancer can treated. And with proper sun protection, it can often be avoided altogether.

Skin cancer is on a definite rise amongst people all over the world and this is becoming a major cause for concern for those who’re constantly under the glare of the sun. Skin cancer is known to be caused by overexposure to UV radiation which can be direct or indirect. This is particularly harmful for those whose jobs or work entail traveling or those who’re always on the move.

The sun’s rays can be harmful but it is next to impossible to ensure complete isolation from it because then one would have to stay cooped up indoors all the time and that is not what one can afford in these times. The best way is to ensure that the UV rays are prevented from harming your skin. As is usually believed, skin cancer does not always have symptoms like sunburns which means that you could have already been inflicted by the disease and in the first few stages you will be completely unaware of it. Shocking and terrifying, isn’t it? Well you don’t have to go sick with worry because we have a few tips to ensure that you’re well protected from the glare of the sun.

Everyone from doctors and cosmetic surgeons and specialists to skin care professionals will advise you to use a sunscreen and indeed, this is the safest and one of the most important ways to ensure skin protection. Try not to be out of doors for too long when the sun is directly overhead but if this is absolutely unavoidable and you simply have to bear the sun and the heat, make sure you are armed with a good sunscreen. Some of these creams nowadays can actually harm your skin instead of doing any good so make sure that you get one from a well-known and reputed brand. Remember, this is your skin and you don’t a cream that will destroy it, in a bid to keep from spending more money. If spending a little more money gets you the best sunscreen, go for it. Also, see that the sunscreen has an SPF of at least 15 and if you’re a regular sun worker, raise the bar to an SPF 30.

The best way to combat the sun is to wear a straw hat. These hats come with a wide brim that not only covers your head and face but also your neck and shoulders. You must have seen numerous postcards with pretty pictures of people wearing straw hats and enjoying a fine morning out in the garden. Well it is time to adorn one of these hats yourself! You can go for a simple classic straw hat or one that comes with embellishments if it’s a day out in the town for you. They are easily available and very affordable too. If you agree to lighten your pockets, you can get straw hats specialized for controlling moisture and sweat caused by the sun. These hats are most fantastic and stylish to adorn too!

These hats are easy to clean too! Just a bit of soap and water and hang it on a peg to dry in the sun and in no time, your straw hat will be ready to sit on your pretty head and take a walk in the park!

For more info on straw hats please visit : Outback Leather

You have spent too much time in the sun and have found brown spots on your skin. Is it cancer of the skin or not? That is something that your primary care physician can answer, but it is good to go prepared. Getting to know all there is about that spot on your skin is the most important thing you could be doing while waiting to go see the doctor about it. There are some things to know to determine if it skin cancer or not. When you go to the doctor you can be prepared with the following information:

1. Oozing or bleeding of the skin- If you have this type of skin, chances are there is a case of skin cancer. This is not always the case, but if you are having such a symptom, it is best to consult your doctor right away. Oozing or bleeding of the skin if you are wondering is it skin cancer or not can be a sure sign that there is a informality in your skin.

2. Change in size or color of skin- This is a subtle change that can be missed if you are not paying attention to the way your skin is forming. Looking at your skin everyday, you can see that it remains mainly one color and size. Lumps and sizes of moles on your skin can be a red flag to the normal type of skin. Be conscience of your body and know when there is a degree of change to your skin.

3. Dark coloring- Patches or dark spots on your skin should be looked at immediately by your doctor. In many cases, people ignore the fact that their bodies have dark spots and don’t bother getting them looked at. With dark spots on your skin, there could be a chance that this is skin cancer. Knowing whether or not it is skin cancer is very important if you are to live longer.

When you have talked with your primary care physician and determined is cancer of skin or not, you can feel better about yourself. It takes a lot of courage to go into your doctor’s office and ask this type of question. There are many cases of skin cancer in the United States to have skin cancer not be taken lightly. When you have researched all there is about cancer of the skin, you can have a better understanding on the prevention of it. Preventing skin cancer from forming is the best you can do for your body. Always be aware of what is going on in your body and consult your primary care physician if you see any changes in your skin.

What are cancerous moles symptoms? Perhaps you have this experience: a mole on your belly suddenly goes itchy. You mention it randomly to your family and they get very concerned and suggest a consultation with a medical expert.

Do you think they are over-reacting or being itchy is one of the cancerous moles symptoms?

Actually, it’s advisable for one to be aware of the differences between a mole at its normal condition and one that may develop into cancer. The ability to identify cancerous moles symptoms may save someone from the real danger of a fatal disease.

More often than not, moles are not harmful. But in some cases, moles can be cancerous. One of these situations is that of melanoma which develops from existing moles. No everyone is alert enough to notice the symptoms of a cancerous mole in the skin. To ensure that your mole is not cancerous, your family is right – let your doctor examine it to decide if the mole is dangerous or not.

Cancerous moles symptoms are not noticeable all the time. Added to this is the fact that no common symptoms can definitely tell you if a mole is cancerous or not. So it’s essential for you to observe the color, shape and size of your moles closely so that you can tell at once if they undergo any special changes that are cancerous-like.

The following are some common cancerous moles symptoms which can be summarized as the ABCDs of malignant melanoma:

1. Asymmetry – when one half of a mole has a different shape from the other half
2. Border irregular – when the mole develops scalloped or uneven edges
3. Color varied – when the mole is more than one color.
4. Diameter – when the mole has a size bigger than the diameter of a pencil eraser.

Apart from the four characteristics described above, other cancerous moles symptoms may include the appearance of a mole past age twenty, itchy skin, oozing or bleeding surface, inflamed or scaly skin, or a sore that does not heal over time.

It is always advisable to monitor your skin conditions properly to detect cancerous moles symptoms early. Whenever unsure, better seek the professional opinion of the doctor. However, to avoid overlooking moles such as those mentioned above and thus putting your health at risk, many would prefer removing them once and for all. This is particularly true today when people can remove moles at home naturally by themselves.

More and more people are becoming aware that over exposure to the sun can have serious consequences for their health. It is known that the ultraviolet rays from the sun can often cause painful sunburn and skin damage, which includes premature aging and skin cancer. The need to use clothing for UV protection is an important defense in the prevention of skin cancer.

There are many people who believe that wearing their normal summer clothing protects the body from UV radiation damage. However, new research from the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, shows that normal summer clothing may not have sufficient protective qualities to protect the body from the sun’s damaging rays. Clothing for UV protection provided by any fabric depends upon:

* Weave: Tighter weave is better

* Color: Wear darker colors for UV protection. Dark colors absorb more ultraviolet radiation.

* Weight of Fabric: Heavier fabric is better.

* Stretch: Less stretch is better.

* Wetness: Fabrics that stay dry are better. They also allow the skin to breathe.

Using a broad based sunscreen of SPF 30 + (Sun Protective Factor) can help in protecting the exposed parts of the body against both UVB and UVA rays although, in practice, people do not usually apply sufficient amounts of sunscreen or reapply as often as recommended.

Wearing clothing for UV protection with a UPF30 (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) that follows industry standards will protect the wearer against 97% of harmful UV rays. What is the difference between SPF and UPF? SPF is a rating used for sunscreens and UPF is a rating used for clothing. For more information on UV rays please visit: http://www.arpansa.gov.au

It is important to understand that many factors affect the intensity of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. The season, time of day, cloud cover, smog, shade, the skin’s melanin content (lighter skins have less protection) and geographical latitude. It is also important to have sensible exposure to the sun to synthesize vitamin D within our bodies, not only for bone health, but overall health and well being.

To protect yourself against the sun’s destructive radiation and skin cancer, practice good prevention measures for UV protection.

1. Wear clothing for UV Protection with a certified UPF 30 or over, and that is designed to cover the body, arms and legs.

2. Use a sunscreen with an SPF 30 or over and reapply every two hours or after swimming or perspiring from activity. Surveys have shown that people often do not take enough care to put sunscreen on evenly and sometimes leave out areas such as neck, front of chest, ears, forearms and hands. It is suggested that 1.2oz (35ml) of sunscreen is desirable for an average adult body full coverage.

3. Minimize exposure to the sun when it is at its strongest 10.00am until 2.00pm.

4. Wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses that have a certified UPF label.

5. Have your doctor check for sun spots and skin damage once a year or if you notice anything abnormal.

6. Consider using a vitamin D supplement to boost the body’s reserves

Say no to skin cancer. Avoid putting yourself at risk of painful sunburn, skin damage, premature aging and skin cancer. Wear fashionable, stylish certified UPF clothing for UV protection.

A few years back, basking under the heat of the sun is recommended for a daily dose of Vitamin D for the skin. Things have drastically changed when pollution attacked and overpowered the environment causing serious skin damages from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. What used to be safe is now considered harmful to the point of causing serious skin disorders such as cancer.

Skin cancer is characterized by the unrestrained proliferation of skin cells that are unable to divide and grow in the normal process. This group of abnormal skin cells can form into a tumor. The tumor can look differently. Some can be small in size, burnished or coarse, and red or bleeding. The sad thing is that the skin tumor can be malignant and the cancer cells can spread to the body’s tissues and organs. It is crucial then to be able to consult the physician as early as possible to get an accurate diagnosis and subsequent treatment.

Better yet, it is wise to adopt a healthy skin care system that will decrease your chances of acquiring such a disease. For those who may have a history of skin cancer in the family however, it is best to conduct regular skin examinations that will facilitate early detection. One may opt to go to the doctor for a proper screening procedure. If you see some suspicious changes in your skin, you can immediately go to your dermatologist to help rule out the possibility of skin cancer.

For a more regular skin care monitoring however, you can do self-examinations while you are at home. The center of attention is the skin and its appearance. Right after taking a shower, get hold of a mirror and position yourself in front of a much larger mirror. Make sure that the room is well-lighted for you to see every bit of your skin’s details. As you explore every inch, take note of your moles, birthmarks, and other blemishes. Try to see if there are significant changes in them in terms of color, texture, or size. In case there is, do not hesitate to have it checked.

On the other hand, non-melanoma skin cancer or cancer which is caused by too much exposure to harmful ultraviolet radiation can be prevented through a well-protected lifestyle. Avoiding staying under the sun for a long period is the most sensible and practical skin care solution that anybody can uphold. This is especially true when the sun is at its hottest in the midday. If sun exposure is inevitable, you should try wearing wide-brimmed hats, long-sleeved shirts, and pants.

Moreover, tanning may be fashionable but sun lamps or tanning beds can prove to be harmful to the skin in the long run. As such, if there is anything that should reach and touch your skin, it would be the skin care products that contain sunscreens with SPF levels that are higher than 15. When you are swimming outdoors or enjoying your time at the beach, apply more sunscreen lotion before and after the activity. There are a whole lot of creative skin care schemes that you can incorporate to your daily lifestyle. Do everything that you can to prevent skin cancer.

The skin is the largest organ of the body but is almost always ignored or abused. Interestingly, the skin plays a number of important functions that can only be maintained with a proper skin care regimen. For one, it is the skin that gives us the sense of touch that sends powerful signals to the brain.

Likewise, it serves as a protective barrier that prevents harmful bacteria to enter the body at any time. Perspiration also brings out excess water or salts away from the body via the skin. At the same time, sweating is the skin’s way of maintaining the body’s normal temperature.

On the other hand, inadequate skin care can cause different levels of consequences. For instance, the skin can age rapidly and wrinkles can start to appear. Skin irritations can similarly flare up when the skin is not properly moisturized. The use of synthetic skin care products can cause allergic reactions that are sometimes difficult to erase. A daily lifestyle that is composed of junk food, cigarettes and alcoholic drinks leave the skin tone uneven and rough.

At the extreme level, a non-existent skin care regimen can lead to certain types of skin cancer. The most common ones are called non-melanoma skin cancers that can either be a squamous cell carcinoma or a basal cell carcinoma. The squamous cells are the flat ones found on the epidermis layer or the utmost part of the skin. Meanwhile, the basal cells are round cells that can be found right under the squamous cells.

Consequently, these two types of skin cancer are ubiquitous because they are the layers that receive excessive exposure from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. It is important then to watch out for the five signs of skin cancer for early detection, diagnosis and treatment. The key is to be able to examine your skin regularly for any noticeable changes in moles, birthmarks, or skin lesions.

The first sign pertains to asymmetry or the irregularity of the shape. For instance, a round mole that doesn’t look even on both sides could be a warning sign. If this first sign is apparent, the next four should be closely watched out for. The next thing to look at is the border that separates the regular skin from the lesion. Once again, borders or edges that are irregular and cannot be easily distinguished can be a cause for alarm.

Similarly, multi-colored skin growths with patches of gray, light pink, black, brown, red, or white are one of the five signs of skin cancer. In terms of size, tumors that are more than ¼ inches wide are usually malignant. They grow fast enough for a person to notice them. Finally, if the mass is elevated above the skin and has a rough surface, it could be cancerous.

All these signs should never be neglected or ignored because the later they are dealt with, the more complicated the skin problem becomes. As such, do not hide the changes that you have noticed and share your observations with a loved one. If you are not ready yet, the first person that you should go to is your physician. He or she will know what to do best and will make you feel less stressed and assured.

Be Alert to the Five Signs of Skin Cancer use my recommendations to take care of your skin.

Intensive research and information sharing is helping to recognize and start early treatment for different types of skin cancer . Some rare skin cancer types are among the many different types of skin cancer that have been identified so far. The rare ones often become life threatening and eventually fatal because so little is known about them. As researchers learn more about the types of skin cancer that exist, changing environmental conditions, carcinogens in certain products or food may keep them busy for a very long time before they find cures are for all skin cancer types.

Pictures of Skin Cancer Types

Pictures of different types of skin cancer (SC) can be easily found online at skin care websites that are mainly designed to sell skin care treatments. There are thousands of sites that have skin cancer types photos that can help people with skin conditions to recognize cancers types. Most product s being sold on line are meant for topical application and if the skin condition persist or the SC types pictures makes it a suspect a visit to the dermatologist should be done immediately.

Different Types of Skin Cancer

The three most common types of carcinoma seen by physicians, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the most treatable. They are often referred to as non -melanoma skin cancers to distinguish them from the more deadly melanoma which is more virulent and difficult to treat.

Basal cell carcinoma usually usually appears as a small, shiny bump or nodule on the skin, occurring mainly on the areas exposed to the sun, such as the head, neck, arms, hands, and face. It is most common in people with light complexions.

Squamous cell carcinoma usually appear s as nodules or as red scaly patches of skin on the rim of the ear, face, lips and mouth. They can spread to other parts of the body.

Melanoma

Melanoma is the least common of these 3 types of carcinoma but it is harder to treat. It is found in the cells that produce melanin which gives the skin its color. It most often appears on fair – skinned men and women, but also affects other skin types and rarely it can form in parts the eyes, mouth, vagina, large intestine, and other internal organs.

Causes and Treatment

The causes for all types of SC are being studied and more innovative forms of treatment are being tested. Some factors that are suspected causes of types of carcinoma are excessive exposure to sunlight, environment al conditions, and carcinogens in the food supply or products and harmful lifestyle habits. Prevention is always better than cures and protection from sunlight and being aware of harmful surroundings or practices and a healthy diet may reduce the risk of developing the main types of carcinoma of the skin.

Many websites and books use types of carcinoma photos to inform the public about skin cancer types and treatments that are available. These types of carcinoma photos may bring peace of mind if the skin problems looks harmless but extreme care should be taken in self diagnosis. Many types of SC are deadly and early treatment saves lives. All types of carcinoma are and especially rare carcinoma types require clinical care by a physician or other healthcare professional.

Pictures of SC types can be used to determine if a skin problem is harmles s or what types of carcinnoma resembles the condition that they are experiencing. Basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma are often easily detected and have a high chance for successful treatment. Of the three types of carcinoma , melanoma is the rarest but receives the most attention because it is more difficult to treat and has a much lower chance for successful treatment.

Genetics and Skin Type

Genetics and skin type have been identified as possible factors that contribute to these 3 types of carcinoma that doctors see most often worldwide. For people who carry these genes the condition is always expected to occur and proper skin care becomes most important in their lives.
