Some facts about this disease:
* Malignant disorder of plasma cells
* Peak incidence between 60-70 years
* Rare under the age of 30
* Males are affected more than females.
Pathogenesis:
-The tissues are infiltrated by proliferating cells.
-One type of abnormal immunoglobulins (paraprotein) usually IgG or IgA.
-This paraprotein may cause auto-immune manifestations.
-The paraprotein may coat the platelets and coagulation factors.
-Production of incomplete immunoglobulins (light chain only) by plas. cells which are excreted in urine (Bence-Jones protein).
-Diminished production of normal immunoglobulins increases infections. Continue reading ‘What You Need to Know About Multiple Myeloma and How to Diagnose It’ »

Colon cancer is a serious health problem in this country. Unfortunately there may not be many obvious signs until the disease has progressed. However anemia and colon cancer are often closely linked so here is some important information to keep in mind concerning this.
If a person develops this cancer, it usually begins as a polyp which turns cancerous and then begins to grow. As it enlarges, it begins to block the colon and makes it much more difficult to produce full sized bowel movements.
A very common symptom is anemia or low red blood cell count. Keep in mind that anemia can occur for a wide variety of reasons so if you do become anemic, don’t immediately jump to the conclusion that you have developed it. Medical research has suggested that for patients with anemia, it is important to look at their ferritin levels as this may be associated with a higher incidence of colon cancer. Colon cancer is a serious problem and unfortunately affects a great many people. If not detected early, it can cause significant damage and death. So while early detection is key, here are some advanced colon cancer symptoms to be aware of.
First of all it is very unfortunate that many people have no idea they have colon cancer until the symptoms are quite advanced. But in earlier stages, some common symptoms may include fatigue, night sweats, anemia, blood in the stool, diarrhea, constipation, lack of bowel movements or pain in the right shoulder.
It is particularly important to address the situation where you find blood in the stool. There are many reasons why blood might show up in the stool and they have nothing to do with cancer. However this is something which should not be ignored and it is always a good idea to check it out with your Doctor to be sure. Continue reading ‘Advanced Colon Cancer Symptoms’ »

KILL THE CANCER RIGHT AWAY
Dear Friend
Disease knows no boundaries. It doesn’t discriminate
and it isn’t bigoted.
Cancer, for instance, strikes anyone of any age,
and of any race or social background. Cancer will
find you whether you lead a healthy or unhealthy
lifestyle; whether you’re physically fit or out of
shape; whether you exercise regularly or are a
couch potato; whether you’re rich or poor, male or
female; whether you’re a vegetarian, pescetarian
or meat lover; and whether you’re an adult,
adolescent or child.
DID YOU KNOW… that 1 out of every 3 adults in
America already has cancer? But most of them
don’t know it yet because the cancer is
undiagnosed and undetected. According to the
American Cancer Society, there’s a 41% probability
that an individual, male or female, will develop
cancer in his or her lifetime (or die from it).
Additionally, every human being has cancer cells
existing in the body which are just seeking a
low-oxygen environment where they can multiply
into the full-blown disease. Continue reading ‘Kill The Cancer Right Away’ »

Your blood circulates throughout your whole body. It supplies food, oxygen, hormones and other chemicals to all the body’s cells. It also helps to remove waste products and is important in fighting infection and in controlling bleeding. Blood consists of 60% plasma (fluid) and 40% blood cells. The three most important types of cells are red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Although we think of blood as a fluid, it is actually made up of both fluid and cells. These can be seen under a microscope.
Bone Marrow is the “blood cell factory” which is found filling up the cavities of bones. All blood cells originate and are produced from a single “stem cell” whose progeny grow and mature into different types of blood cells. This stem cell can and does renew itself as required by our body.
Red blood cells (erythrocytes) carry oxygen from your lungs to all parts of your body. If you don’t have enough red blood cells you have anemia. Continue reading ‘Structure and Function of Blood and Bone Marrow’ »
