RISK ASSESSMENT FOR BREAST CANCER CAN BE LIFESAVING

Medical Breast Thermography is an FDA approved (since 1982) radiation and compression free procedure that images the breasts to aid in early risk assessment for breast cancer.

The procedure is based on the scientific principle that chemical and blood vessel activity in both pre-canceroustissue and the area surrounding a developing breast cancer is almost always higher than in the normal breast.

With Medical Breast Thermography, state-of-the-art infrared cameras paired with sophisticated computer software, detect, analyze and produce high-resolution images of these temperature and vascular changes. By carefully examining these changes, signs of possible cancer or pre-cancerous cell growth may be evident through early risk assessment often MANYyears prior to being discovered using any other procedure.

Thermography is used world wide in breast heath evaluation and breast cancer risk assessment! Thermography does not replace standard detection methods, but when used as a multi-modal approach (clinical examination, thermography, mammography), peer reviewed studies have shown that 95% of early stage breast cancers can be detected!*

“This technology is especially exciting for young women and those with dense or fibrocystic breasts since mammography is not usually usefull in these cases.  The “wait and see” and “come back in a year” is no longer acceptable” says Mary Kubisewsky, Clinic Director of Thermography Clinic Kitchener Inc., herself a Breast Cancer Survivor. Mary Kubisewsky celebrated 5 years cancer free in November/09 and now dedicates her life to encouraging women to be proactive and take control of their health especially breast health. (more…)

Age And Physical Risk Factors In Breast Cancer

Age is likely the most important overall factor associated with breast cancer risk.  Breast cancer risk increases in the older post-menopausal population.  For this reason, all breast cancer screening recommendations are based primarily on age.  Obesity, however, may be the single most preventable risk factor associated with breast cancer.  With the dramatic increase in obesity in the U.S., this may be the number one reason for a persistently high incidence in breast cancer.  Other physical factors also play some roles in breast cancer risk.  These include height, body shape, breast size, and mammographic density.  These physical factors are summarized below.

Body Weight and Breast Cancer:  A woman’s body weight does affect her risk of breast cancer but the effect is different for premenopausal and postmenopausal breast cancer.  Most studies have found that heavier women (weighing more than 175 pounds) have a lower risk of breast cancer before menopause and higher risk of breast cancer after menopause, compared to thinner women (weighing less than 130 pounds).  Since 80% of breast cancers occur after menopause, the negative effects of obesity far outweigh the beneficial effects.  The results are the same whether body weight is examined directly or if body mass index is used to adjust for the effects of height on body weight. Breast Cancer – How to Succeed 2

Signs and Symptoms

A lump that appears in the breast that feels at variance with the surrounding breast tissue is typically the first symptom or indication of the presence of breast cancer.

The prestigious Merck Manual has indicated that, in the vast majority of breast cancer cases, it is the woman herself who first discovers the presence of a lump. The first medical indication of breast cancer, as stated in the reviews of the American Cancer Society, is usually discovered when the patient is subjected to a mammogram upon the advice of her doctor. Another indicator of breast cancer is the presence of hardened tissue found in the lymph nodes located under the armpits or in the region of the collarbone.

Alterations in the size or shape of the breast, skin dimpling, nipple inversion, or discharge from a nipple may be regarded as alternative indications of the presence of breast cancer. The incidence of pain is not a reliable determinant for the presence of the cancer. Such an observation may in fact be more indicative of other breast related issues such as mastodynia. (more…)

Breast Cancer Survival Rates – What Does Breast Cancer Survival Rate Tell You

The sad truth is that not everyone, who undergo treatments for breast cancer, are able to survive. A lot of people die every year and there is very little we can do about it. That is why it is necessary to know more about breast cancer survival rates and what treatments you should then choose. The more you know about cancer the better your chances are.

The rates of survival certainly depends on many different factors and the more advanced the cancer is, the lower the survival rates are obviously. The breast cancer stages are the best way to determine the rate of survival for breast cancer patients.

For example Stage 0 means the cancer cells can only be found on the walls of the lump inside the breast and that the cancer is non-invasive. Stage 1 of breast cancer means that the cancer has become invasive already and that the tumor is around 2 cm long. Stage 2A means that the tumor is around 2-5 cm long. (more…)
