We all fear cancer because we fear what we don’t understand but with a little knowledge about its causes and the reasons why there is so much of it today we need have no fear of it. Cancer today is well understood and is only a disease of an immune system that’s been weakened by the way we now live so common sense should tell us that the first priority is to strengthen it.

Such is the power of our current medical system that we all believe the only way to treat cancer is by cutting it out with surgery, burning it with radiation or using a poison to try and eliminate it and these three treatments are accepted without question these days. Our treatments for cancer today are very good at causing cancer to shrink but that’s about all they can achieve. Also these three ways of treating it all suppress the immune system and that is not very helpful when you are trying to achieve a complete restore to health.

Your immune system is a very important tool when fighting cancer because a permanent cure will only be achieved by using this system. Most people don’t realize that when cancer has been diagnosed there are gentle and effective ways to overcome it. Our bodies are designed to maintain and heal themselves without the use of drugs and you do that through natural living. The odds are very high that you or someone you know had cancer or had died from it. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US, after heart disease. Men have slightly less than a 1 in 2 lifetime risk of developing cancer, while for women, the risk is a little more than 1 in 3.

All cancers involve the malfunction of genes that control cell growth and division. Every cell in the body has a program that tells it what to do, called the DNA or the genetic code.

If the cell DNA code gets changed a bit by hormonal imbalance, chemicals, or free radicals, mutations occur. The cells with mutated DNA no longer look like the original cells we were born with. Also, mutations accumulate with age, that’s why about 78% of all cancers are diagnosed in persons 55 years and older.

About 5% of all cancers are strongly hereditary. However, most cancers do not result from inherited genes but from damage to genes occurring during one’s lifetime. Continue reading ‘What You Can Do To Prevent Cancer’ »

I find that most articles on prostate cancer seem to be from the clinical point of view. This doesn’t always placate the poor soul who has just been diagnosed and, as far as he is concerned this is a death sentence. The odds in favour of survival have increased so much over the past few years that there really should not be any doom and gloom about this disease that attacks so many men, and, I am told, an increasing percentage the older you get. And I realise that it is not something that is whispered about in corners any more, if it gets a mention. It is so eminently survivable that all men should take some simple precautions to ensure that they catch it in time.

Some Early Warning Signs

There are plenty of early warning signs that should not be ignored. I can only be classed as a layman, but, having been there, I feel I talk from a position of strength. I knew that I was having to get up more often in the night than before, but was quite happy to assume the advancing years were responsible. My PSA count was about 7, so I was not too alarmed. However, working hard in the garden I did notice some blood in my urine, which should have warned me. But that was only one occasion, so, again, not too alarmed. The sudden lack of ejaculate should have been the final sign, but that was only a couple of weeks before proof positive of the problem. Like most men I was a little slow to grasp what had happened. There was no difficulty in urinating, just more frequent, so I took a little longer than I should have going to the doctor. Continue reading ‘Layman’s View of Prostate Cancer’ »

The leading cause of death from genital malignancies in women is ovarian cancer. It accounts for almost 4% of all cancer deaths in women although not the highest incidence among reproductive tumors. The cause of ovarian cancer is not known. The risk factors includes age, women older than 40 years old; Family history, also heredo-familial disease can be a major risk factor; null parity, a woman who has not given birth to an infant capable of survival; history of infertility; history of dysmenorrhea; and the use of ovulation-stimulating medications increase the risk that the p53 which is a tumor suppressor gene to mutate. With so many different forms out there, both rare and common, cancer can be a difficult subject to think about, but it is certainly not a subject that should be ignored.
