Determining the breast cancer stages is important since it enables the patient and doctor to identify the treatment necessary for one’s condition. Also, it is essential in assessing the risk of the given condition and what lifestyle changes the patient can do to improve their health.

Identifying A Breast Cancer’s Stage

When talking about breast cancer stages, it is aimed at describing the extent of the cancer in the body. So, if you ask how a breast cancer is staged, doctors often start to classify whether it is invasive or non-invasive. Other factors considered are the tumor size, number of nymph modes involved, and what other parts of the body it has managed to affect.

Determining a cancer’s stage is helpful during prognosis and deciding on a treatment option.

To determine the stage, a few standard procedures are done by the doctor on a patient. They undergo physical exam and biopsy to acquire the data needed by the doctor for the diagnosis.

With so much alternative means and detoxifying methods, one asks if there is an unbiased and a solidly objective colon cleanse review in the mainstream media. Adding to the hype is the heavy flow of infomercials everywhere, the internet and the unabashed publication of the so-called “natural” healthy lifestyle. Flashy commercials on colon cleansers like the pill, patch or potion are so attractive that the unsuspecting individual soon fall victim to the dangers.

With the influx of health institutions and their claims, as well as the barrage of product sales talk by agents everywhere, it is indeed a difficult task to discern your options. Many colon cleanse reviews are self-serving and funded by entities promoting such method of detoxification. Their prime motive is sales and production, yours is your well-being. Women with an early form of breast cancer are at higher risk for recurrence if their breast tissue appears dense on mammograms, a study shows.

The study also shows the risk of recurrence is more pronounced in the opposing breast.

The new findings appear in the Oct. 7 issue of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.

In the study, of 935 women with an early type of breast cancer known as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) treated with breast-conserving surgery, those women whose breasts appeared dense on their screening mammogram were twice as likely to develop a secondary breast cancer. This risk was about threefold higher for developing a secondary breast cancer in the opposite breast, the study shows.

DCIS refers to breast cancer that has not spread outside the milk glands. During follow-up, 164 had a subsequent breast cancer on the same breast and 59 developed a new cancer in the other breast.

“Breast density is among the strongest risk factors for breast cancer, like family history,” says study researcher Laurel A. Habel, PhD, research scientist at Kaiser Permanente’s Division of Research in Oakland, Calif. Continue reading ‘Dense Breasts Linked to Breast Cancer Return’ »

Even if we live relatively healthy lives, modern lifestyles and diets (often lacking in dietary fiber) put a strain on the body and can cause our colon, intestines and bowel to become sluggish and accumulate toxins. If you suffer from any digestive problems including constipation, irritable bowel, diarrhea, bloating, gas or a suspected parasite problem, a bowel and colon cleanse will help to improve your symptoms. Colon cleansing has also been shown to provide increased energy, improve the condition of skin, reduce the frequency of illness and reduce aches and pains.

Rather than a one-off colon cleanse you may find more benefit from making colon cleansing a natural part of your day-to-day routine to stop the build up of toxins and improve digestive health. A colon cleanse should be completely natural and doesn’t need to involve time off work or expensive supplements to be effective. Concentrate on slow, lasting improvements rather than the short-term ‘fix’ promised by many colon cleansing products. Continue reading ‘How to improve the health of your colon and bowel’ »

Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in American women and one of the leading causes of cancer deaths in women, second only to lung cancer. Research shows that 13% of all women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Although, no one knows the exact causes of breast cancer, but by educating yourself and taking control of some lifestyle factors, you can lower your risk of developing breast cancer.

Here are five simple things you can  take to reduce your risk of breast cancer:

1. Eat a Healthy Diet

Eating well is also important to improve your health and reduce your cancer risk. Take a good hard look at what you typically eat each day and incorporate the following suggestions to build a healthy diet plan for yourself:

- Add more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to your diet. These foods are rich in antioxidants which help to prevent cell damage associated with cancer development.

- Processed and red meats: Cutting back on processed meats like hot dogs, bologna, and luncheon meat, and red meats like beef, pork and lamb may help reduce the risk of colon and prostate cancers. These foods are also high in saturated fat, so eating less of them and eating them less often will also help you lower your risk of heart disease. EASD 2009: Lantus defended amid allegations of increased cancer risk

It presenters at the conference discussed the current evidence and its limitations. However, a potential mechanism by which insulin could promote cancer cell growth was also proposed. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=91847&rt=Commercial-Insight-Cardiovascular-and-Metabolic-Market-Overview-Diabetes-to-the-fore-as-generics-hit-primary-care-markets.html )

Although the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) recommended the continued use of Lantus in type 1 and type 2 diabetics, it has called for increased research into the relationship between insulin therapy – particularly Lantus (insulin glargine; Sanofi-Aventis) – and the risk of cancer.

It was postulated during the discussion at the 2009 EASD meeting that insulin use may be related to the increased incidence of cancer seen in diabetics over that seen in the general population. The preliminary data discussed in the symposium suggested lower rates of cancer with Levemir (insulin detemir; Novo Nordisk) compared to neutral protamine Hagedorn (NPH), but higher rates with Lantus. Eating or drinking this tasty, nutrient rich fruit might help to slow of stop breast cancer according to a new study published in Cancer Prevention Research. The work identifies a group of phytochemicals known as ellagitannins, abundant in pomegranates, that inhibit the growth of estrogen responsive breast cancers in the lab.

The researchers believe the ellagitannins in pomegranates work by inhibiting a key enzyme (known as aromatase) the body uses to make estrogen, which is suspected of a role in breast cancer growth.

“Phytochemicals suppress estrogen production that prevents the proliferation of breast cancer cells and the growth of estrogen-responsive tumors,” explains researcher Shiuan Chen, PhD, director of the Division of Tumor Cell Biology and co-leader of the Breast Cancer Research Program at City of Hope in Duarte, California. You know that weight lifting can make you healthier but how? Many people know what is good and bad in terms of exercise and nutrition but they do not really know why. If you fall into this camp of people who know but don’t really know then rest easy. You are about to learn exactly how weight lifting can make you healthier.

Weight Management

When you lift weights then you put on more muscle. Muscle burns calories all the time, just being there on your body. This means that even though you only life weights a few times a week, the muscle that you put on is burning more calories for you around the clock.

In fact, one pound of muscle can burn off up to 50 calories each day. Instead of cutting food out of your presumably already healthy diet, just lift weights and put on a few extra pounds of muscle. You’ll be slimmer in no time. And your body will have the nice shape that comes with toned muscle too. Continue reading ‘How Weight Lifting Can Make You Healthier’ »

Cancer these days are so common that there is a 50 to 75 per cent chance that someone in you family could be diagnosed with it. Cancer takes many forms and to date, there is no known cure that can completely eliminate this disease.

The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a virus that causes different types of cancers. The HPV 16 and HPV 18 cause cervical and vulval cancer. A recent study by a leading Cancer Research scientific team found a vaccine to combat against certain forms of the Human Papilomavirus.

The vaccine, known as TA-HPV was modified from a smallpox vaccine. Scientists tested the vaccine in 18 women with Vulval Intraepithelial Neoplasia (VIN), a form of vulval cancer. This form of vulval cancer is very hard to treat as the precancerous lesions appear on the lining of the vulva. Continue reading ‘Is There A Vaccine For Cancer?’ »
