Most people think about sexually transmitted diseases whenever they assess the risks of oral sex, but new studies show that there may be much more to fear than that. Scientists in the United States have recently determined that there may be a possible link between oral sex and cancer risk in the oral cavity, providing a whole new reason to promote sexual education and awareness. The studies indicate that this risk mainly rises for white men, but there are possibilities of issues across the board. This is a serious problem that is currently under serious investigation.

Oral cancer cases have grown 225% from 1974 to 2007, and the main factor that scientists could link to the new victims is the number of sex partners involved in oral practices they had prior to developing cancer. Oral sex allows for the passing of the human papillomavirus, or HPV. This can lead to the onset of many common STDs, as well as many forms of vaginal, penile, anal, or oral cancers. 40 of the 150 different types of HPV can be passed through sexual intercourse in one way or another, so the spreading of oral ractices and cancel risk go hand in hand. A few years ago it was believed that cervical cancer vaccinations are more needed by teens and younger generations who are more actively involved with sex. But, nowadays the HPV vaccine is being used for women who are 24 to 45 for those who are not infected by human papillomavirus causing cervical cancer or other cervical diseases. The study as conducted on 3,200 women, between 24 and 45. They have no history of cervical cancer or genital warts. Women were given the quadrivalent HPV vaccine or placebo. After about 2.2 years, researchers found that there were four infected cases among those who are vaccinated and 41 cases in the placebo group. This concludes that the vaccine was almost fully effective against the virus strains mainly 6, 11, 16, 18.

When the HPV types of 16 and 18 were considered, researchers came up with four cases in the vaccinated group and twenty three in placebo. This suggests that success rate was 83 percent against those 2 HPV types. Continue reading ‘Cervical Cancer Vaccinations Not Only for Teens’ »

Perhaps the most important point to note about HPV symptoms is that in many cases there are none!

Both men and women can carry one of the strains of HPV that results in genital warts, or worse still, cervical cancer, yet show no signs or symptoms whatsoever. Yet they can be pursuing an active sex life and unwittingly passing on the virus to one sexual partner after another.

In fact, the most prevalent strains of HPV that have been linked to cervical cancer are the least likely to show any symptoms for many years. Between 3000 and 4000 women die every year from cervical cancer, which is often treatable if caught in its early stages. Medical researchers believe that this number is so high because most women have no idea they have cervical cancer until its too late. Continue reading ‘Hpv Symptoms ? Exploding The Myths’ »
