There are many facts known about leukemia and if someone is dealing with the problem it’s these facts they need to know. Like all cancers, leukemia happens for a reason as its not some mysterious illness that science can’t fathom. For instance it’s exceptionally rare in S.E. Asia but is prevalent in all western developed countries.

Some of the facts that have been linked to leukemia are high voltage power lines and people living close to these have a much higher risk factor. The chemical formaldehyde that is commonly found in our homes has also been linked to it. Food items associated with leukemia are aspartame, the artificial sweetener in many soft drinks and chewing gum. Sodium nitrite is another; the additive is used in luncheon meats. Other meats that contain sodium nitrite are sausages, hot dogs, hamburgers, bacon, ham, and any meats that have been processed. Continue reading ‘Facts on Leukemia and What to Do About It’ »

Conventional medicine is now recognizing what is called complementary or alternative treatments, alternative treatments for leukemia is one of them. If you are afflicted with this disease you will want to read further to find out about these alternative treatments.

For those who don’t know, leukemia is a cancer that starts in the blood forming cells. The bone marrow produces both white and red cells, when this disease takes flight a over abundance of abnormal white cells are produced. These cells can attack good tissue, for what ever reasons they see them as the enemy. Continue reading ‘2 Alternative Treatments For Leukemia’ »

Are you aware of childhood leukemia and where did it come from? You may be thinking that this is not a problem for you or your children today, but how about the future and the next generation? Nobody can’t tell where this hematological disease come from, what may have started it, or what may have caused it. And this is what makes it somewhat depressing.

If you have a child who suffers from this disease, have you tried asking your doctor what may have caused this? Usually they can’t really pinpoint which is which, for there are so many possible things that can trigger this, like for instance exposure to chemicals like benzene and dioxins, improper use of plastic materials, multiple nutritional problems, and merely because of genetics. All of these may affect the immune system of a child which may lead to further problems and diseases like this cancer of the blood called leukemia.

Do you know that it has been said that every single person has cancer cells in the body and it is possible that we may have already acquired them even at birth. However, these cancer cells are merely not detected as cancer unless it reaches a certain number which can be confirmed as a detectable size through a series of tests done. So you might be wondering how come your child has reached the age of 2, yet that is the only time that he or she have acquired this disease. Terra med Alliance News: Researchers at the University of Minnesota Cancer Center have produced the first genetically-engineered mouse that provides a model of infant acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). The mouse model opens the door to further investigation into the biology, treatment, and possibly cure of infant acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Terra med Alliance News: Laboratory Model Makes Further Research Possible

ALL is an often fatal cancer that usually strikes children from infancy to one year of age. Infant ALL currently affects about 200 babies each year in the United States, and claims as many as 60 percent before their first birthday.

An abnormally formed gene is considered to be the source of the disease. While researchers have long known the gene, the absence of a laboratory model to more intensely study the disease has frustrated researchers for nearly two decades. With an experimental model, exploring and designing treatments has been possible. “Hopefully, this mouse will help us find a cure so that in the not too distant future, a parent does not have to experience the agony of losing a baby to this cancer,” said John Kersey, M.D. & Dr. Kersey led the research team and is a physician and researcher specializing in childhood cancers and director of the University’s Cancer Center. Cancer regardless of the type is a terrible disease feared and dreaded by the human race, more so because there is still no cure for it. And leukemia is the type of cancer that affects the blood cells, it is basically cancer of the blood or the bone marrow. It is generally typified by the unusual increase in the number of white blood cells. There are different types of leukemia and they are categorized according to how soon the disease progresses and become worse. There are two main forms of the disease, acute and chronic leukemia.

Acute leukemia is typified by the speedy increase of white cells that prevents the bone marrow from generating healthy blood cells. In the case of this form of the disease the patient needs immediate treatment due to the collection and increase of malignant cells. These sick cells flow over into the blood stream and extend to the different organs inside the body. This is more commonly found in children. Continue reading ‘The Dreaded Disease Called Leukemia’ »

When a baby is born and the umbilical cord is cut, the blood left in the umbilical cord and placenta is usually discarded as medical waste. Not any more, as such blood has been found to be a very important and rich source of stem cells, and stem cells is mankind’s latest hope in its battle against age-old fatal diseases.

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that eventually become the different types of blood cells. And as of today, about 70 medical disorders have been treated with such cells, specifically those taken from the umbilical cord. Such cells are very important in the treatment of, say, leukemia, or cancer of the blood. When patients undergo radiation therapy or chemotherapy, their stock stem cells are destroyed, leaving them in a very vulnerable, almost deadly condition. Traditionally, they receive transplant from a donor via bone marrow transplant or direct normal blood transfusion. These two sources of stem cells are fraught with pain and side-effects, and it is tricky to find a donor match. Noninvasive infrared cancer therapies combine the unique physical and optical properties of nanoshell or nanoparticles with a near infrared laser source to thermally destroy cancer tissue without significant damage to surrounding healthy tissue.  So far, several laboratory studies prove very promising results of 100% complete eradication of tumors without any known side effects, preliminary FDA reports.

The incidence rates of cancer of the liver, pancreas, kidney, esophagus, and thyroid have continued to rise, as have the rates of new cases of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma, and childhood cancers. The incidence rates of cancer of the brain and bladder and melanoma of the skin in women, and testicular cancer in men, are rising, reports National Cancer Institute 2010.

The potential benefits of nanoparticle cancer treatment are highly selective and rapid tumor destruction with minimal damage to surrounding healthy tissue. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that it is effective and causes no detectable systemic toxicity. Additionally, this therapeutic device may be used in combination with and could increase the effectiveness of standard chemotherapy and radiation. There are many different types of leukemia, but all are a malignant disease of the white blood cells of the body. The cause of all types is still uncertain. Each type is determined by the specific blood cell involved and the length of time the illness lasts. Leukemia exists in both an acute ad chronic form: it is detected when the blood is examined.

When the cell group known as the lymphocytes is affected, the disease is called lymphocytic leukemia. When the monocytes are involved, it is known as monocytic leukemia. And when the polymorphonuclear cells are involved, it is called myeloid leukemia.

The myeloid form attacks a younger age group than the lymphocytic. These two types are the ones seen most commonly, but almost all of what is noted here applies to leukemia in general. Continue reading ‘Leukemia – What You Should Know About It’ »

How can you identify whether your child has leukemia? Here are some common warning signs of child leukemia that you should be aware.

1. Infection
Normally child leukemia will cause high fever and it will not react to antibiotic. It is generally caused by a lack of white blood cells, specifically mature granuloctyes. While it produces high white blood cell count and these cells do not preserve against infection.

2. Abnormal bruising and bleeding
Child leukemia will reduce the production of blood platelets and will also cause bruises; the kid will some time bleed more than normal even from a small cut. In some cases, the child may also experience from recurrent nosebleeds. Continue reading ‘8 Common Signs of Child Leukemia’ »

There are some diseases that occur without much of the fault of the sufferers. One of the most horrible diseases is Cancer and among Cancer if there is anything that is quite dangerous, it is the Leukemia. It is the Cancer of the blood or bone marrow. Its quite dangerous and difficult to cure.

There are two main types of Leukemia, the Acute and the Chronic. When the immature blood gets weight age in the body and it is increased more than the mature blood, it gets converted into Leukemia. In this type an immediate treatment is must as if the blood gets circulated in majority of the parts of body, it becomes difficult to handle the situation and that results into the blocking of bone marrow to produce healthy blood cells. So, the curing should be deadly faster. Also the lymphocytes Leukemia and myelogenous Leukemia are also the other types of this disease. Continue reading ‘Leukemia – Causes, Symptoms and Treatment’ »
