For most cancer patients radiation therapy is their last chance to beat cancer. Unfortunately a number of people will attempt killing themselves during or just after their radiation therapy. For some this is due to the pain they have to endure during the radiation therapy regimen…and for others it’s due to radiation therapy long term effects like sterility that is caused by the radiation treatment (mostly affects those who have cancer in parts of the body near their reproductive organs). But the biggest risk group for suicide attempts, are those who go through radiation therapy and fail to get cured, since they are the most hopeless group.

People who have a severe medical condition like cancer are a major risk group for suicide. In fact cancer patients are 2x more likely to commit suicide compared to the general population. However it is important to note that by all factors, this number is most likely underestimated due to the fact that a high number of cancer related suicides go unreported. Pay extra attention to those who have oral, pharyngeal and lung cancers, since these groups are the most at risk. Cancer is a very big problem, I do not have to tell you that and more and more people get cancer. 50 years ago, cancer was rare, but now it seems that everyone is either directly or indirectly affected by it. There are several ways to treat cancer, some of them are more dangerous, then others. Radiation therapy is considered safer, then for example chemotherapy. So is radiation treatment for lung cancer, your best option?

Have you noticed that doctors are not talking about curing cancer, but treating cancer. Conventional cancer treatments are used to treat cancer, as long as possible and hopefully then the patient will get rid of cancer. There are many methods that are used to fight against cancer and one of the most commonly used method is radiation treatment. The idea is that by focusing energy in the form of x-rays, gamma rays or protons, the cancer is either destroyed or slowed down. This obviously very dangerous and not very effective. But is radiation treatment for breast cancer really the best way?

Nobody in their right mind would like to get radiated, cut or poisoned with drugs, but in the fight against cancer these are the main methods.
