Skin Cancer And Melanomas, Learn The Truth About The Sun

Published: Mar 4th, 2010 | Author: steffan kuntz Add Comment

The sun which provides life on this planet and without it we couldn’t survive, has received an enormous amount of bad press lately. Over the last 30 to 40 years we’ve been told by governments and our health care system to keep our skin out of the sun because it causes cancer

The true facts are the cause of skin cancer doesnot lie entirely with the sun as there was very little a few years ago and it’s been slowly increasing over the last 40 to 50 years. The sun certainly hasn’t changed and the ozone layer that protects us from harmful radiation is only a problem over the Antarctic where nobody lives but there is something else that has changed over that same period.

It’s the sun, combined with nutritional deficiency that is causing so much skin cancer. It’s the irritation caused by the sun burn that will determine where the cancer will take hold, but it’s the nutritional deficiencies and other lifestyle factors which is causing it to grow and that’s why it keeps reappearing after treatments. The current treatments are not addressing the root cause of the problem and we of course are just blaming the sun. (more…)

Asbestosis Treatment And It’s Relationship With Cancer

More Article http://health-information2u.blogspot.com/ in Health information

Asbestos is a very common material insulation for all types of building structures and also cause a number of diseases that are related to exposure to this substance, including asbestosis and mesothelioma. Although asbestosis is a health condition very serious, this is not a form of cancer. For an overview of asbestosis and its relation to asbestos-induced cancers, have a look at the symptoms and signs and define what asbestosis is.

What kind of disease is asbestosis?

Asbestosis is defined as a chronic condition. In its early stages it directly affects the lungs. The latency period can typically rather long and it is not uncommon that exposure to asbestos dates back more than 15 years before a patient is the first sings and symptoms of asbestosis. The Lowdown on Skin Cancer

Skin is our largest organ and one that is not immune to developing cancerous cells. Skin cancer develops when damaged cells start growing and dividing uncontrollably in the skin. This form of cancer is the most prevalent with more than one million cases in the United States diagnosed each year. Here we will cover some of the commonly asked questions.

What Are The Different Forms of Skin Cancer?

There are different types of skin cancer with three forms accounting for almost all of the diagnosed cases. They are:

• Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)- Accounting for nearly 80% of skin cancer, BCC develops in the basal cells which are located in the lowest layer of the epidermis. It is commonly found on areas of the body regularly exposed to the sun such as your face, head and upper body. Signs of BCC include skin that appears as a sore that repeatedly heals and re-opens, a slightly elevated pink growth, patch of irritated skin that is red in color and/or shiny translucent skin. This type of cancer does not commonly spread but should be treated to protect surrounding tissue. (more…)

A Personal Account of Stem Cell Donation

We hear a lot these days about stem cell research, but many of us are unaware of what exactly stem cells are and what can be done with them. There are several types of stem cells including adult stem cells and embryonic stem cells. Adult stem cells reside throughout the human body within tissue, blood and organs; they are plentiful and readily available. Adult stem cells refers to the stage or maturity of the stem cell. They are also found in the tissues of the umbilical cord (after live birth), spinal cord, fat, bone marrow, dental pulp, nasal cavity, brain, peripheral blood, blood vessels, skeletal muscle, skin, cornea, digestive system, retina, liver, and pancreas.

Peripheral stem cell transplantation is the process of removing the stem cells from one person and donating them to a recipient- in my case it was my brother. In most cases donors are siblings since tissue type is most identical to the patient’s own. After it had been determined that I was a perfect match for my brother, I had a physical and endless blood work. I passed my tests and then it was on to phase one.

This involved six days of receiving neupogen shots which stimulate the release of stem cells from the bone marrow into my blood so they can be harvested for my brother. It’s important during this period to drink plenty of water. I had decided to go to the hospital each day for the shots, but some people opt to inject themselves at home. The shots sting a bit and after the first several days, mild bone aches began- mostly in my hip and sternum. It was nothing that an occasional tylenol couldn’t remedy. (more…)

New Natural Skin Cancer Treatment Discovered

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States, and doctors are urging people to become more aware of the disease and what happens during skin cancer. It is therefore just as dangerous as any other type of cancer, not to mention the most common. It is one of the most commonly detected cancers, and the main cause is exposure to sun and is most common on areas of the body that are not normally exposed to the sun, and when exposing the skin to UV rays excessively.

However it is also the easiest cancer to cure, if diagnosed and treated early. Skin cancer is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in the outer layers of the skin. It is divided into two major groups: non-melanoma and melanoma but is not confined to any specific area in the body it can occur anywhere.

Mainly caused by the ultraviolet radiation from the sun. The cancer is more common in people with light colored skin who have spent a lot of time in the sunlight. Doing More to Prevent Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a killer. This is a proven fact which is borne out by the millions of deaths that occur each year on account of it. The problem of global warming has indeed depleted the ozone layer which means that the harmful UV rays of the sun percolate in and affect people who are exposed to these rays for extended periods of time. It is true that the problem of world pollution has reached such alarming proportions that one can really not go to the beach and sun oneself for long periods of time, without having a fear that one would get skin cancer.

As the sun is the largest source of skin cancer, it follows naturally that preventing exposure to the sun would naturally be the most effective means of preventing skin cancer. For instance experts say that it is advisable to avoid going into the sun without adequate protection between 11 am to 4 pm when the sun’s rays are most direct. Similarly, one has to be generous with applying sun tan lotion which keeps the sun’s UV rays out decisively. There are so many kinds of lotions that are available in the market nowadays. One should be careful to ascertain that the sun tan lotion that one is using is as good as it is touted or advertised to be. (more…)

Bleeding Bowels – What it Could Mean

Published: Dec 1st, 2009 | Author: steffan kuntz Add Comment

Bleeding of the bowels is a sign that something could be wrong and can occur as a result of a number of different conditions. Most of these conditions can be easily treated and cured but of course the greatest concern of rectal bleeding is cancer.

One cause of rectal bleeding is Hemorrhoids, which are otherwise commonly known as piles. They are dilated blood vessels that can rupture and bleed which can occur on the outside of the anus and are felt as little bumps which can be very painful. They can also occur on the inside of the anal canal where they are usually painless. Hemorrhoids can be treated and cured.

A fissure is a tear in the lining tissue of the anus which can be caused by diarrhea or more commonly constipation. The hard stool stretches the lining causing it to tear slightly, which exposes the nerve endings and blood vessels causing pain. Most patients experience pain on passing a stool. A fissure can be treated with medication or sometimes surgical intervention. (more…)
