Colorectal cancer – cancer of the colon or the rectum is the second most common cancer in America. It is one of the deadliest of cancers and accounts for 20% of all the cancer deaths. As much as 50% of those who are diagnosed with colorectal cancer will eventually die as per the latest medical statistics. One main reason for such a high mortality is due to the fact that the majority of colorectal cancer cases are detected at a very late stage. If detected early the mortality due this disease is entirely preventable.

One early symptom of this type of cancer is traces of blood on the surface of or mixed in the stools. This can be easily detected with laboratory testing if not visually clear. In some cases there may be pain or tenderness in the abdomen. But in most cases there will be no symptoms of colorectal cancer until the tumor grows big enough to cause obstruction or rupture of the intestine. To keep bladder infection away it is important know about the infection, how it causes, risk factors involved into it and symptoms and treatment. The infection usually is the result of Urinary tract infection (UTI), which can attack any part of the urinary tract. It can be the uterus, urethra, the bladder, or kidneys. The infection in bladder is known as bladder infection and is most common among other UTI diseases.

People in risk zone

There are few people who are more prone to bladder infections, also known as cystitis. Of them women are commonly affected compared to men as they have shorter urethra and is closer to the anus. Furthermore women going through menopause, under going pregnancy or using diaphragm for birth control are mostly affected with this infection. However, men with prostate inflammation or enlargement are more likely to catch UTI. Other reasons that might increase the risk level in both the genders are:

* Kidney stones
* Sexual intercourse with multiple partners
* Narrowed urethra
* Immobility such as recovering from hip fracture
* Not drinking enough fluids

Cervical cancer attacks the cervix or cervical region caused by a viral infection of HPV (human papillomavirus) which did not recover in time. If the immune system decreases, the HPV infection will dangerous and can lead to cervical cancer.

The symptoms are not too visible at an early stage, that’s why the beginning of cervical cancer HPV infection is considered as “The Silent Killer”.

Some symptoms can be observed although not always an indication of HPV infection. Whitish or spend a bit of blood after intercourse is little sign of symptoms of this cancer. In addition, the foul-smelling yellowish fluid in the genital area can also be an indication of HPV infection. This virus can be transmitted from one patient to another and infect the person. Prostate cancer is the male equivalent of breast cancer, which plagues millions of women. Fortunately, a little precaution can reduce the dangers of prostate cancer, and might even help save your life. It is crucial for men to pay attention to their health, especially as they age. Prostate cancer is the third major cause of cancer-related deaths in men. Many men do not realize the severity of this hazardous disease and fail to receive regular prostate checkups.

Prostate cancer starts with the growth of a malignant tumor inside the prostate gland and spreads by extending into the bladder, seminal vesicles, and peritoneal cavity. It eventually metastasizes to the bones, lymph nodes, lungs, liver, and kidneys. The cause of prostate cancer is unknown, although recent studies find a small relation between increased testosterone levels and high dietary fat intake. Prostate cancer is rarely occurs in men under 40 years of age. The highest level of occurrence is greatest in African-American men over 60 years old. Signs and Symptoms

A lump that appears in the breast that feels at variance with the surrounding breast tissue is typically the first symptom or indication of the presence of breast cancer.

The prestigious Merck Manual has indicated that, in the vast majority of breast cancer cases, it is the woman herself who first discovers the presence of a lump. The first medical indication of breast cancer, as stated in the reviews of the American Cancer Society, is usually discovered when the patient is subjected to a mammogram upon the advice of her doctor. Another indicator of breast cancer is the presence of hardened tissue found in the lymph nodes located under the armpits or in the region of the collarbone.

Alterations in the size or shape of the breast, skin dimpling, nipple inversion, or discharge from a nipple may be regarded as alternative indications of the presence of breast cancer. The incidence of pain is not a reliable determinant for the presence of the cancer. Such an observation may in fact be more indicative of other breast related issues such as mastodynia. (more…)

If you are worried about getting cancer of the skin then it is important that you know the signs and symptoms of it. Be aware of the warning signs and signals. When you look at yourself in the mirror, you want to be able to detect the changes, even the smallest, on your skin and body. If you noticed a change in consistency of your breast tissue or a lump, it could be a warning signal of cancer.

Unfortunately, there are no one telltale sign of skin cancer but instead a package of skin changes that have to be kept an eye on and to be checked constantly that your skin are clear and free from them.

You have to be even extra vigilant if you are the outdoor type or loves to suntan as you have a higher risks of getting skin cancer. There are some diseases that occur without much of the fault of the sufferers. One of the most horrible diseases is Cancer and among Cancer if there is anything that is quite dangerous, it is the Leukemia. It is the Cancer of the blood or bone marrow. Its quite dangerous and difficult to cure.

There are two main types of Leukemia, the Acute and the Chronic. When the immature blood gets weight age in the body and it is increased more than the mature blood, it gets converted into Leukemia. In this type an immediate treatment is must as if the blood gets circulated in majority of the parts of body, it becomes difficult to handle the situation and that results into the blocking of bone marrow to produce healthy blood cells. Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by out of control cell growth. Lung cancer occurs when this uncontrolled cell growth begins in one or both lungs. The lungs are two large spongy organs located inside the chest cavity. Air is breathed into the trachea and moves down two tubes called bronchi, each going to a lung. Lung cancer occurs most often in adults between the ages of 40 and 70 who have smoked cigarettes for at least 20 years.

Over 1,400 Victorians are diagnosed with lung cancer every year. Only about 2% of those diagnosed with lung cancer that has spread to other areas of the body are alive five years after the diagnosis, although the survival rates for lung cancers diagnosed at a very early stage are higher with approximately 49% surviving for five years or longer. Ovarian cyst is a well known disease of women today. You should be aware of it because though most cysts are harmless, some can risk your health and may cause your death. Ovarian cysts are small fluid-filled sacs similar to blisters that develop in the ovaries of a woman. Women are more likely to have this disease during their reproductive years. The cysts are form on the two almond sized organs on each side of the uterus called ovaries. It can be classified as cancerous and non cancerous. Non cancerous cysts are harmless and go away without any treatment. But serious case can cause pain, bleeding and even death.

In an ovarian cyst ultrasound, ovarian cysts look like bubbles containing fluid surrounded by a thin wall. Such kind of cyst is called a functional cyst or simple cyst. Forming of cyst in the ovaries is caused by the fluids that remain on it when a follicle fails to rupture and release egg. It is normal to see small cysts in a normal ovary while follicles are being formed.

Women, regardless of age can have ovarian cyst. Majority of the cysts formed are considered benign, they are not harmful and nothing to do with the disease. It may disappear and heal on their own in a matter of weeks without undergoing any kind of treatment. (more…)

Leukemia is cancer of your body’s blood-forming tissues, including your bone marrow and lymphatic system. The 3 main forms of the disease are;

1. Acute Leukemia which is a malignant proliferation of white blood cell blasts in bone marrow or lymph tissue.
2. Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia also known as granulocytic leukemia.
3. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia which is common in the elderly and accounts for about 25% of all new leukemia cases.

Acute leukemia accounts for about 20% of leukemias, it’s most common forms are:
1. Acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL)
2. Acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML)
3. Acute monoblastic leukemia ( Schilling’s type )

Incidence of Acute Leukemia
Leukemia can occur at any age, acute forms of leukemia can occur in children and young adults and in fact in this age group it is the most common form of cancer. It is more common in females than in males, in whites ( especially those of Jewish extraction ) and in urban and industrialized populations. (more…)
