Genital warts are among the most common of all sexually transmitted infections. While medical science has presented infected individuals with a wide variety of treatment options, many choose to take a natural approach to managing and curing HPV and its associated symptoms.
Natural remedies represent an excellent alternative to traditional treatments because they are usually more affordable and are much gentler with a lower risk of harmful side effects.

The herpes is actually a sexually transmitted disease and is very well known in the countries like the US and other parts of the world. The disease occurs due to the infection of Herpes Simplex virus or HSV. The Herpes Simplex Virus is actually of two categories, HSV 1 and HSV 2. The HSV 1 can spread through the connection of saliva. This infection can create cold sores inside the mouth. These cold sores are known as ‘fever blisters’. The infection of HSV 2 spread through an unsafe sexual contact with the person who has an infection of HSV 2. The people who have a weak immune system due to an extreme intake of alcohol, drugs or any kind of sickness have a high risk of herpes infection because these people have a very fragile immune system. The herpes can occur after two to twenty days of the infection. In the initial stage, the symptoms may be completely un-noticed. The main herpes symptoms will be small bumps in and around the genital area. These bumps can also occur in other parts of the body in outbreaks, severe itching and burning sensation.
The person will also have swelling in other lymph glands, headache, fever and pain in the muscles and yellow-green discharges from the penis or vagina. A lower back pain will also be there. A herpes infection in women many times can lead to cervical cancer. The woman who is pregnant can pass on the infection to the unborn baby. For pregnant women a Cesarean section is conducted to have a safe delivery. The skin disease named as Psoriasis is very common among a number of people around the world. This is not an infectious skin condition and the person gets the infection will have a quick reproduction of skin cells, which results in bulky or solid skin with dry and red patches. The disease generally affects the scalp, knees and elbows. The disease has many types like psoriasis vulgaris, inverse psoriasis, pustular psoriasis and palmoplantar psoriasis. Psoriasis symptoms can take years to spread. The skin conditions are mostly non-curable. It has been observed that the skin condition can go worsen in the winter seasons. The medical experts say that the skin condition can get some improvements in the warm atmosphere. The disease can affect the people of any and every age groups. Studies and researches say that the disease generally occurs due to a genetic disorder in a human body. Currently, a light therapy has been introduced in the treatment process for the disease. Like Psoriasis, eczema also creates inflammation or swelling on the skin. The disease is also known as dermatitis. Eczema is of various types and subtypes.

Breast Cancer – Aside from October being one of the cooler months of the year, and a special month for kids to go trick or treating dressed up as an eerie ghoul to scare people witless, it is however on a more serious note Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For some women being greeted at the door by a vampire, devil or witch, the fright at that moment is nothing in comparison to the fear they feel inside after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time when women and young girls are alerted to the importance of early detection. This doesn’t mean that women are not made aware of what’s involved with breast cancer treatments, self breast examination and recovery issues all year round; it is just strongly more focused upon in October through Breast Awareness Campaigns. These types of campaigns have great pulling power where we see more and more women coming forward to get themselves checked out, and their questions answered.
As it is with most organizations and support groups they need financial help to keep up the good work. Breast cancer groups will include people who care, and are compassionate towards your feelings. It is also most likely that them who run the groups are, or, have been patients themselves. Cancer care workers will help you the best they can to come to terms with having breast cancer, be there for you when undergoing treatment for breast cancer Continue reading ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month – Best Way to Beat Breast Cancer Is to Prevent It’ »

Global figures of mesothelioma patients are rising at an alarming rate and medical experts worldwide are now rushing to discover ways to treat the sickness. A study conducted in 2008 showed that there were approximately 174,300 mesothelioma cases from 56 countries that “use asbestos at substantial levels but report no cases of the disease.” Among 33 countries surveyed that did not report any mesothelioma cases, the researchers estimated a total of 38,900 deaths.Pleural mesothelioma is the most common type of mesothelioma and has been studied to a far greater degree than any of the other forms of the disease. However, it is difficult to diagnose pleural mesothelioma in its early stages because its symptoms often mimic the symptoms of other common illnesses, such as the flu, pneumonia or laryngitis. Benign pleural mesothelioma is often checked at the age of 50-60 years old, Malignant mesothelioma usually occurs in the right chest. Malignant pleural mesothelioma(MPM), originated from pleural mesothelium cell, is an fatal tumor with natual history of only about several months, has showed an increased morbidity recently.

A cervical polyp is a benign tumor that is found on the surface of the cervical canal. They can cause irregular menstrual bleeding, but more often they show no symptoms. The cause of this type of cancer is not fully understood by the experts. It may result from an infection or from a long term or chronic inflammation, an abnormal response to an increase in the estrogen levels, and in the congestion of blood vessels in the cervical canal.
The diagnosis of cervical polyps is relatively easy, since they can be easily seen by a physician. They appear to be smooth stalks with a red or purple color and they protrude from the cervical canal.

At the moment of cancer diagnosis, there is a marker in life, which bookmarks personal time as either Before Cancer or After Cancer.
But before that, there is the in-between time, when you don’t quite know what is happening. You may have experienced troubling symptoms for some time, followed by lab work or medical exams. Or, it may have all started with a routine trip to the doctor – you were told that something seems suspicious or wrong. “How long has this lump been there?” After that, you may have gone through more visits and more tests, several weeks apart.
So at the time of receiving the definitive news of cancer, you have already been feeling fear, dread, confusion – many unpleasant feelings. While waiting for test results, you might have been counting on relief or expecting the worst. While waiting, we usually cope in the way that is most familiar, using our habits and patterns of thinking and feeling. If you are upbeat, you probably stayed that way. If you are more like Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh, you probably have been feeling dark and dismal. Continue reading ‘Cancer Changes Everything’ »

This cancer originates in immature nerve cells and is the most common cancer among children and infants with an estimated 650 new cases annually in the United States only. This is a neuroendocrine tumor that arises from neural crest element of the SNS (sympathetic nervous system). Most often it occurs in one of the adrenal glands but can also develop in the nerve tissues of neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis.
Symptoms of neuroblastoma
This cancer has vague symptoms in its initial stage that makes the diagnosing task really difficult. At later stages it has these signs:
Loss of appetite
Joint pain
Fatigue, weakness
Swollen tummy and constipation due to the presence of a tumor, if it affects abdominal region
Breathing problems due to tumor in chest nerves
Tumor in bone around the eyes can cause noticeable swelling and bruising
Pallor from anemia can be caused due to infiltration of the bone
Inability to walk, stand or crawl because of the presence of tumor on spinal cord
Pain in legs and hips or limping due to bone lesions in that area Continue reading ‘Neuroblastoma Symptoms and Treatment’ »

Another interesting study is called, “Gefitinib in Patients with Malignant Mesothelioma: A Phase II Study by the Cancer and Leukemia Group B” – Clinical Cancer Research March 2005 11; 2300 by Ramaswamy Govindan, Robert A. Kratzke, James E. Herndon II, Gloria A. Niehans, Robin Vollmer, Dorothy Watson, Mark R. Green, Hedy L. Kindler and on behalf of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B. Here is an excerpt: “Abstract – Purpose: The Cancer and Leukemia Group B conducted a phase II study of gefitinib, an inhibitor of the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase, in patients with previously untreated malignant mesothelioma. Experimental Design: Eligible patients had unresectable pleural or peritoneal mesothelioma, measurable disease, no prior therapy, and performance status 0-1 by Cancer and Leukemia Group B criteria. Gefitinib (500 mg p.o.) was administered once a day for 21 days. Patients underwent restaging after every two cycles. Therapy was continued until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity. Results: The most common grade 3 toxicities were diarrhea (16%) and nausea (12%). Of 43 patients enrolled, 1 patient (2%) had a complete response, 1 patient (2%) had a partial response, 21 (49%) had stable disease lasting two to eight cycles, 15 (35%) had progressive disease, and 5 (12%) had early deaths. One-year survival was 32% [95% confidence interval (CI), 21-50%]. Median survival and failure-free survival were 6.8% (95% CI, 3.5-10.3) and 2.6 months (95% CI, 1.5-4.0), respectively. The 3-month failure-free survival was 40% (95% CI, 25-56%). EGFR expression score by immunohistochemistry done in 28 patients was categorized as low (EGFR 1+ or 2+) or high (EGFR 3+) expression: 97% had EGFR over[removed]2+ or 3+). The median and 3-month failure-free survival were 3.6 months and 40% for those patients with low EGFR expression compared with 8.1 and 40% for those with high EGFR expression.” Continue reading ‘Unresectable Pleural and Peritoneal Mesothelioma Research’ »

An interesting study is called, “Aggressive multimodality therapy for malignant pleural Mesothelioma” – The Annals of Thoracic Surgery – Volume 58, Issue 1, July 1994, Pages 24-29 by Thomas W. Rice MD, David J. Adelstein MD, Thomas J. Kirby MD, Matthew G. Saltarelli MD, Siva R. Murthy MD, Marjorie A. Van Kirk RN, Herbert P. Wiedemann MD and James K. Weick MD – Here is an excerpt: “Abstract – Nineteen patients with clinical stage I malignant pleural mesothelioma were treated with aggressive multimodality therapy. Nine patients underwent pleurectomy and decortication followed by immediate intrapleural chemotherapy with cisplatin and mitomycin C. Ten patients required pleuropneumonectomy followed within 1 week to 2 weeks by intrapleural administration of cisplatin (100 mg). Four to 8 weeks after operation, 15 patients underwent postoperative adjuvant cisplatin-based systemic chemotherapy. There were three postoperative complications (16%) requiring reoperation and one postoperative death (5%). Intrapleural chemotherapy was well tolerated with no complications. Systemic chemotherapy was poorly tolerated, and there was one chemotherapy-related death. Sixteen patients (84%) experienced good to excellent palliation. Three patients are currently alive with no evidence of recurrent disease at 10, 35, and 43 months. The median overall survival was 13 months and the median disease-free survival, 11 months. Overall and disease-free 3 year survivals were 17% and 22%, respectively. Patients with epithelial malignant pleural mesothelioma had significantly better overall survival (p = 0.037) and disease-free survival (p = 0.02) than patients with sarcomatous or biphasic malignant pleural mesothelioma. We conclude that despite major toxicity, in select patients with clinical stage I malignant pleural mesothelioma, aggressive multimodality therapy offers effective palliation and occasional long-term disease-free survival.” Continue reading ‘Pleurectomy and Decortication Followed by Immediate Intrapleural Chemotherapy’ »
