Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women and the second leading cause of cancer deaths in American women. In 2009, approximately 194,280 patients are estimated to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, and 62,280 with carcinoma in situ. An estimated 40,610 will die of this disease. For a woman of average risk, the lifetime incidence of breast cancer is one in eight.

Question: What is the #2 type of cancer that successfully kills women in the United States?
Answer: Breast Cancer.
Second only to the mortality rate of lung cancer in women, breast cancer can affect any woman. After skin cancer, it is the most commonly diagnosed type of cancer affecting women. It is not yet know why some women get it while others do not, but there are known risk factors to cause breast cancer. While much rarer, men can get it as well. Specifically, the American Cancer Society predicts that approximately 178,000 women and 2000 men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer, every year.
RISKS
* Age is a factor, as the older a woman gets, the more likely she is to develop it.
* Breast cancer genes have been found, called BRCA1 and BRCA2, which seem to greatly increase the risk in women. Women who have familial history should get tested for these genes.
* Overweight women tend to be more at risk.
* Women who partake in hormone replacement therapy are more prone to ending up with breast cancer.
* Birth control pills seem to escalate one’s chances of getting it. Continue reading ‘The Second Most Common Cancer’ »

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that is associated with exposure to asbestos. The disease is a brutal form of cancer because it is very hard to discover and often only is diagnosed in the very late stages. At that point, treatment is often very difficult for a host of reasons. To give you an idea of how difficult, we cover one maddening complication in this article.
Mesothelioma is the cancer of the mesothelium from which it derives its name. The mesothelium is a lining found in the chest and abdomen that acts more or less as a protective sheath for organs such as the heart and lungs. While cancer of the lungs can be easily identified, the same cannot be said for identifying it in the thin lining surrounding them. This is what makes Mesothelioma so deadly. It usually only discovered very late, often after it has grown for 20, 30, 40 years or more.
The cancer is most often found around the Mesothelioma lining of the lungs. To diagnose it, the physicians usually must take a biopsy of the material in the area. This is done by creating a small incision and then inserting the relevant medical tool. A small amount of material is then snipped off, extracted and sent to the pathology office for examination under a microscope. It sounds simple, but here is where the difficulty in dealing with Mesothelioma rears its head. Continue reading ‘Mesothelioma – An Example of Treatment Difficulties’ »

The vast majority of Mesothelioma cases are caused by exposure to asbestos in the workplace or at home. This is a common statement put forth about the cancer, but you’ll note it doesn’t state that all cases are caused by asbestos exposure. There are instances where asbestos is not involved. One that is garnering attention is whether the SV-40 Virus might cause it.
SV-40 stands for Simiun Virus 40, which is to say it is derived from monkeys. How did this virus become a concern to humans? Well, polio was once a huge health problem. A vaccine was developed for it that has largely eradicated the disease. Oh, there was one small problem. The vaccine was grown on monkey kidneys. Some of the monkeys had contracted SV-40. While not impacting the effectiveness of the vaccine, the virus did travel along with it into some human hosts.
So, what’s the big deal? Well, Mesothelioma is a hotly researched form of cancer. One of the methods of studying it is to look at the tumors it produces. In doing so, researches started discovering something very odd. SV-40 was being found in Mesothelioma cancer growths where the patient reported no exposure to asbestos at any point in their life. Researchers started to question whether the virus could be a cause of the cancer in the absence of any asbestos exposure. Continue reading ‘Mesothelioma – Can The SV-40 Virus Cause It?’ »

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has proven to be a very important tool for discovering many forms of cancer. From diagnosis to evaluating the efficacy of treatment, visualizing a tumor allows physicians to gather real-time information about the behavior of a specific cancer.
Magnetic resonance imaging uses magnets and radio waves to move electrons in human tissue which allows the tissue to be visualized. As each tissue in the body has a specific frequency that can be detected, each tissue produces a specific resonance that can be collected and formed into an image. Fatty tissues and muscular tissues produce different frequencies when placed in a magnetic field, so each of these tissues will have a distinct pattern of resonance. Those patterns are transformed into an image by converting these frequencies into visual patterns. This also allows normal tissues to be differentiated from abnormal tissues. Normal bone and muscles will appear dissimilar than those with tumors. As there is no radiation with an MRI, these tests can be performed as often as needed without affecting a patient’s overall body exposure to radiation. This can be very important in those patients that may be utilizing radiation for the treatment of their tumor. Continue reading ‘MRI for Cancer Diagnosis and Evaluation’ »

Pancreatic cancer survival rate indicates the number or percentages of people who were able to extend their lives 5 years of more after they were diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas. A long time ago, cancer survival rates are measured in a 10 year period but recently statistical reports have lessened their time periods into 5 years. Patients who were under this study are those suffering from pancreatic cancer – whether or not they have shown symptoms but are still receiving treatment for this disease.
Medical professionals continually inform the public that it is unwise to predict your life expectancy period based on these survival rate charts. They may be used as basis, but since there are no 2 or more patients with the exact same case, it is still advisable to maintain an uplifted spirit and continue the prayers.
There are some factors that may highly affect the Pancreatic Cancer Survival Rate and they are as follows: Continue reading ‘Pancreatic Cancer Survival Rate – Know Your Chances’ »

What Causes Cancer?
Most, if not all cancers are caused and perpetuated by a small population of tumor-initiating cells that exhibit numerous stem cell-like properties. Adult stem cells (SC) are involved in the regeneration and maintenance of our body tissues and account for one out of every 6 million cells. Each tissue has a unique population of specific SCs located in regions known as niches. In the SC niche, the SCs exist in a unique dormant state known as quiescence, and remain in this state until they are given the cues to be activated.
Activated stem cells go through two stages of development referred to as proliferation and differentiation. During proliferation, biochemical cues cause the cells to reproduce, resulting in an expanded population of similar cells. Differentiation puts a stop to proliferation with specific biochemical cues that cause the proliferating cells to differentiate into a specific type of cell. Once a stem cell has differentiated, it has a finite life span and is limited in how many times it can reproduce. The number of times a differentiated cell can reproduce is referred to as its Hayflick number. Continue reading ‘Understanding the Causes of Cancer’ »

Well back to that old cliche “you are what you eat” it’s what you put into your body that kills you, not what you don’t. Actually it’s not completely true. It’s not just what you self ingest into your body that makes you sick but also what you fail to ingest that matters. A lack of certain nutrients not only can make you sick but can kill you.
Thank God for men like Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez M.D. and Dr. Norman Walker who have gone against traditional thoughts on Curing Cancer and have been bold enough to write the truth in regards to “How Cancer Starts” and “How to rid the body of Cancer” of course through Natural Remedies. How to rid the body of this deadly beast that has crippled so many and has taken down millions in it’s quest to attack, paralyze and destroy the human body.
First of all let’s look at traditional thought and practice of locating the tumor or cancer cells and destroying them by subjecting the body to more toxic poisons through medicine or even more harmful to the human body, chemotherapy. It not only seeks to destroy cancer cells but also healthy cells needed to ward off and rid the body of the cancer cells through your immune system. Kefir is the name of a drink that is made by fermenting milk with kefir grains. By consuming kefir in daily diet can increase your immune system, something essential during cancer treatment. The present findings suggest that kefir extracts contain constituents that specifically inhibit the growth of human breast cancer cells, which might eventually be useful in the prevention or treatment of breast cancer. Kefir extracts suppress in vitro proliferation of estrogen-dependent human breast cancer cells but not normal mammary epithelial cell. Kefir also can reduce the risk of certain cancers, including colon cancer, preventing the growth of cancer cells. Continue reading ‘kefir as a treatment for Cancer Symptoms’ »
